Second step -- Psychometric testing

OK so for the second step in becoming a mine clearance diver is the all mighty psychometric test.
Trust me this is nothing to be scared of as long as you spend some time at home on the booklet you get from the navy to practice.
The RN Recruiting Test assesses your intellectual ability to successfully complete phase two (trade) training for each branch.

Different trades have different pass marks- the more technical the training the higher the pass mark. Understandably, the technical jobs require significantly higher marks in mathematics, so it's worth revising fractions, decimals, percentages, areas, basic equations and suchlike.

The issue with the recruiting test is that the questions themselves aren't much harder than an average 11+ multiple choice test paper (honestly!), particularly the verbal reasoning, non-verbal reasoning & mathematics sections. The main issue is you are VERY limited on time- that's what makes it difficult, so you MUST practice against the clock. Don't think because you have a grade A* GCSE that you will definitely pass without practicing- it's not uncommon for people with A Levels to fail the test.
If you feel like it’s something you would struggle at there is a booklet to help you at

I did it just through the booklet that was provided so give it a go first.

To be honest I had never done a psychometric test before and was a little worried but to be honest once your there in the room actually doing it isn’t so bad there are only two ways about it pass or fail!!!!!
Once your tests is over you then get taken back to the reception area to wait. One by one, People got taken into the interview rooms, but no… for 5 of us there were no calls I thought I had failed. Finally after about 10 minutes one of the recruitment officers took us back to the room where we sat our test. Where to my surprise we were congratulated on passing the test.
We were then given our interview date with which recruitment officer and a form to get our eye tested in our own time, and for the rest of them their medical date but for me I had to have my interview then the medical came after, This is because it costs the navy 580 pound to put an individual through a full dive medical and its is a longer and more in depth look into your health.

Onto the interview ARGHHHHH!!!!!
